Play in Their World, Learn in Ours! What an exciting and innovative event which was focused around students who are 'gamers' or playing online games. My philosophy was students who play basketball or any other sport can find adults in schools to relate to and talk about their shared love of the sport. Our students who play games such as Guitar Hero, wwii, Rune Scape, Rock Band and more do not always find adults to relate to. Our STSs should have a basic knowledge of these digital games so they can hold a conversation and connect with our students! the event was a tremendous success with our Keynote, Chris Klein, addressing our 21st century student learner and how to connect. We asked student ambassadors to demonstrate and act as a facilitator for their 'game' with the STSs. I am still asked to host another 'games' event.

Web WarsWeb Wars had a Star Wars theme to kick off our new district web site interface from SchoolFusion. We were priviledged enough to have the CEO of SchoolFusion present to our STSs, Steve Shapiro. He got our Site Techs motivated to use this new web development tool.
We also integrated Web Wars into the event. Our STSs would have a minute to showcase their favorite Web 2.0 tool! Click here to view the program booklet and schedule. Elementary STS EventSometimes we would need to differentiate the instruction for the audience. Here is an example of an event focused on elementary STSs only. SMART Master TeachersThe concept of building capacity for teaching SMART Tools inspired us to create a SMART Master teacher program. We have trained 45 teachers to use SMART Boards, SMART Slates, SMART Response Clickers and more... These teachers are then impacting the district and school level by providing training at SMART Fests. Click here to see an example of a SMART Fest flyer.

Tech Master TeachersInspired by our overall success with our SMART Master Teacher program, we then implemented a Tech Master Teacher Program. These teacher focus on tools from Glogster, Skype, Google Tools, document cameras, digital video cameras and more. This program was so successful that during budget cuts the leaders in our district decided to fund the program from the district level! Click here to view a sample of a TechFest flyer.
